Walt Whitman 200th Birthday Celebration: Poetry Reading and Ice Cream Social
Start Date: 9/23/2019Start Time: 12:00 PM
End Date: 9/23/2019End Time: 1:00 PM

Event Description:
Join us in the University's new Digital Humanities Center (O'Toole Library basement) to celebrate the poetry of Walt Whitman on the 200th anniversary of his birth. After introducing Whitman, "the father of free verse," through a brief film clip, students and faculty will read selections from Whitman's vast canon of work. We will end our event with ice cream from Ample Hills, a Jersey City ice cream parlor, which takes its name from Whitman's 1856 poem, Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, - "I too lived-Brooklyn, of ample hills, was mine.."
